Bobinsana — Calliandra angustifolia
Heart medicine from the Amazonian tradition. Known to indigenous healers as Doctorcita — the little doctor.
Bobinsana is one of the most beloved master plants of the Amazon. A gentle but deeply powerful teacher, she works primarily with the heart — softening what has hardened, opening what has closed, and bringing the dreamer closer to the world of plant spirits and the subconscious. She is considered a feminine plant, nurturing in quality, and is traditionally one of the first master plants given to those beginning a relationship with Amazonian medicine.
Traditional Uses
Bobinsana has been used by Amazonian healers for centuries as a heart-opening and emotional healing medicine. She is traditionally worked with for grief, loss, emotional numbness and the kind of sadness that sits deep in the chest and doesn't shift easily. She is known to heighten empathy and emotional sensitivity — making her a valuable ally for those in healing work, creative practice or relationship growth.
As a dreaming plant, Bobinsana has a long tradition of enhancing vivid, colourful dreams and deepening access to intuition and spiritual vision. Many who work with her notice an increased connection to nature, a softening of the inner critic and a quiet but persistent opening of the heart over weeks of regular use.
She is also used in Amazonian shamanism to deepen meditation, strengthen the connection to plant spirits and support those undertaking a master plant dieta — a period of sustained, intentional work with a single plant teacher.
The Spirit of Bobinsana
Bobinsana grows along the banks of Amazonian rivers, her roots submerged in water, her pink flowers reaching toward the light. This relationship with water is not incidental — it is the heart of her medicine. In Amazonian tradition, Bobinsana is associated with the spirits of the water, particularly the mermaids and water beings known to indigenous peoples as the Yacuruna — the people of the water. These are considered amongst the most powerful and beautiful spirits in the Amazonian cosmos.
To work with Bobinsana is to work with water energy — fluid, feeling, deep and connective. She is understood as a feminine spirit of extraordinary grace, one who teaches through the heart rather than the mind. Shamans who have dieted deeply with Bobinsana speak of being taken beneath the water in their visions — into the world of the water spirits — where teachings of love, healing and connection are received.
She is not a plant that demands or challenges. She invites. She opens. She holds. For those who approach her with sincerity, she becomes one of the most loyal and loving plant allies a person can know.
About This Extract
Our Bobinsana is available in three preparations:
1:2 Alcohol Tincture — our standard tincture, one part plant material to two parts organic alcohol. A full-spectrum extraction preserving the full range of the plant's active compounds. Already significantly stronger than most tinctures on the market, which are typically made at a 1:5 ratio.
1:1 Glycerine Extract — equal parts plant material to glycerine. Alcohol-free, potent and well suited to those who prefer to avoid alcohol or are building a gentle sustained relationship with the plant.
5:1 Glycerine Extract — our most concentrated preparation. Five parts plant material to one part liquid — considerably stronger than the standard tincture and among the most potent alcohol-free extracts available. Most extracts sold elsewhere are made at 1:5 — ours is the reverse. Pure, concentrated plant medicine without alcohol.
All preparations are made from bark and leaves sourced directly from trusted indigenous partners in the Amazon, prepared in small batches by hand with care and respect for the plant's spirit.
How to Use
5 drops under the tongue twice daily, away from food and drink. Hold briefly before swallowing. Bobinsana works gradually — her effects deepen over weeks of consistent use rather than in a single session. Approaching her with clear intention and quiet time for reflection will deepen the experience significantly.
She works well alongside meditation, breathwork, journalling and dreamwork. Keep a notebook by your bed — Bobinsana often communicates through dreams.
Important
Bobinsana is traditionally used as a natural contraceptive by indigenous communities — do not use if you are trying to conceive or are pregnant. Not recommended during breastfeeding. If you are taking prescribed medication, consult your doctor before use. Not intended to diagnose, treat or cure any medical condition.
