Mulungu & Passion Flower — 1:2 Alcohol Tincture

Two of nature's most respected calming plants — united in one tincture for deep nervous system restoration, restful sleep and emotional ease.

Mulungu from the Amazonian rainforest and Passion Flower from the tropical and temperate Americas — both plants with deep roots in traditional herbal medicine, both working on the nervous system through overlapping but complementary pathways. Together they form one of the most effective natural combinations available for anxiety, stress, sleeplessness and nervous tension.

This is not a gentle, barely-perceptible blend. Both plants have documented, genuine effects on the nervous system — and together their action is synergistic. If you are looking for real support for sleep and anxiety from the plant world, this is a serious preparation.

The Plants

Mulungu — Erythrina mulungu

Mulungu is a large flowering tree native to Brazil and the surrounding regions of South America, instantly recognisable for its spectacular display of vivid scarlet flowers. It has been used by indigenous and folk medicine practitioners across South America for generations as one of the most trusted natural remedies for anxiety, insomnia and nervous tension.

Its active alkaloids — hypaphorine, erythravine and erythrine — work by modulating GABA receptors in the brain, the same pathway targeted by many pharmaceutical anti-anxiety medications, but through natural plant chemistry. The result is a genuine and notable calming of the nervous system — reducing anxiety, quieting racing thoughts and easing the body into rest.

Beyond its nervous system effects, Mulungu has traditional use for cardiovascular support — regulating heart rate and blood pressure — and for inflammatory conditions including menstrual cramps, joint pain and rheumatism.

Passion Flower — Passiflora incarnata

Passion Flower is a beautiful climbing vine with one of the most extraordinary flowers in the plant kingdom — intricate, otherworldly and deeply striking. It has been used as a medicinal plant by indigenous peoples across the Americas for centuries, and is now one of the most well-researched and widely respected herbal remedies for anxiety and sleep in the world.

Its key flavonoids — particularly chrysin — work to balance GABA levels in the brain, producing a relaxed yet clear state of mind rather than the heavy sedation associated with pharmaceutical sleep aids. Passion Flower is noted for its ability to ease the kind of anxiety that manifests as circular, racing thoughts — the mind that won't stop running even when the body is exhausted. It calms the mental chatter, softens emotional tension and supports a natural, gentle descent into sleep.

It has also been used traditionally for nervous headaches, irritability, menopausal symptoms and mild pain relief.

The Two Together

Mulungu and Passion Flower work on the same fundamental pathway — GABA modulation — but bring different qualities to that shared territory. Mulungu is the more physically grounding of the two, working on the body, the heart rate and the deeper layers of nervous tension. Passion Flower is more mentally focused, calming the thinking mind and easing the emotional charge that keeps people awake. Together they address the full spectrum of anxiety and sleeplessness — body, mind and nervous system — in a way that neither plant achieves quite as completely alone.

About This Tincture

Prepared as a 1:2 alcohol tincture — one part plant material to two parts organic alcohol — using wild-harvested Mulungu bark and organically grown Passion Flower. Most tinctures on the market are made at a 1:5 ratio. Ours are 1:2 as standard — significantly more plant per drop and noticeably stronger. Prepared in small batches by hand with care and respect for both plants.

How to Use

5 drops under the tongue or in a small amount of water. Best taken in the evening 30–60 minutes before bed. Can also be taken during the day for acute anxiety or stress — in which case begin with a smaller amount to assess your sensitivity to the sedative effect.

For best results, use consistently over 21 days or longer. Both plants work cumulatively as well as acutely — their effects deepen with sustained regular use.

Do not drive or operate machinery after use.

Important

Do not combine with sedatives, benzodiazepines, antidepressants or blood pressure medications. Do not drive or operate machinery after use. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Consult your doctor before use if you are taking any prescribed medication or have existing cardiovascular conditions. Not intended to diagnose, treat or cure any medical condition.
