Seven Roots — Siete Raices Powdered Bark Blend
A legendary Amazonian formula. Seven sacred barks working in synergy for strength, vitality and spiritual connection — in their raw traditional form.
Siete Raices — Seven Roots — is one of the most well-known traditional formulas in the Amazon. It has been prepared and sold in markets, bars and by herbalists throughout the Peruvian and Brazilian Amazon for generations as a tonic for physical strength, vitality and overall wellbeing. It is not a modern invention or a marketing concept — it is a genuinely old and widely trusted medicine, deeply embedded in Amazonian popular and shamanic traditions alike.
What makes this formula exceptional is not any single plant — it is the synergy. Each of the seven barks brings its own distinct energetic signature and traditional healing qualities. Together they form something greater than their parts — a broad-spectrum tonic that works on the physical body, the nervous system, the energy field and the spirit simultaneously.
This listing is for the powdered bark blend — the raw plant material, for those who wish to prepare their own tea, decoction or tonic in the most traditional way.
The Seven Roots
Chuchuhuasi — Maytenus krukovii
One of the most famous and widely used medicinal trees in the Peruvian Amazon. The bark of Chuchuhuasi has been traditionally macerated in aguardiente — cane spirit — as a warming tonic for joint and muscle health, physical endurance and vitality. It is strongly associated with masculine energy, resilience and aphrodisiac qualities. A foundational plant in the Siete Raices formula, contributing warmth, strength and stamina to the blend.
Huacapurana — Campsiandra angustifolia
A large Amazonian tree traditionally used as a general tonic for overall wellbeing, joint and muscle support, digestive health and fever. A widely respected medicinal plant across multiple Amazonian traditions, contributing broad tonic and restorative qualities to the formula.
Azúcar Huayo — Hymenaea courbaril
Named for its sweet resin — azúcar means sugar — Azúcar Huayo is a large Amazonian hardwood traditionally used to support the immune system and respiratory health, including conditions such as asthma and bronchitis. It contributes sweetness, immune support and overall vitality to the formula.
Icoja — Unonopsis floribunda
Traditionally valued for its calming and grounding effects on the nervous system. Icoja promotes relaxation, mental clarity and ease — bringing a balancing quality to the more warming and stimulating plants in this blend. Also used traditionally as an antiseptic and for joint comfort.
Murure — Brosimum acutifolium
Traditionally used to support liver health and aid in cleansing and detoxification. Murure contributes anti-inflammatory qualities and benefits for joint and muscle health. A cleansing and purifying presence within the formula, supporting the body's natural processes of renewal and elimination.
Cumaceba — Swartzia polyphylla
A traditionally valued postpartum tonic and bone healing plant — used to support the healing of fractures, dislocations and recovery from physical trauma. Also used as an antiseptic and for eye health. Cumaceba contributes structural repair and recovery qualities to the blend.
Clavo Huasca — Tynanthus panurensis
The name means clove vine — and like clove, this plant is warming, stimulating and strongly associated with vitality and libido. Clavo Huasca is one of the most well-known aphrodisiac plants in the Amazon, used traditionally to enhance sexual energy and physical stamina. It also has joint and muscle supporting properties and contributes a warming, vitalising energy that brings the whole formula to life.
The Formula as a Whole
Together these seven barks create a synergistic tonic that works across multiple systems simultaneously — joints and muscles, the nervous system, liver and digestion, immune resilience, sexual vitality and energetic strength. This is what makes Siete Raices such an enduring formula in Amazonian tradition. It is not targeted at one condition. It is a tonic for the whole person — physical, energetic and spiritual — in the broadest sense.
In Amazonian shamanism these plants are understood as sentient spirits, each contributing their unique intelligence to support healing across all levels. The formula is greater than the sum of its parts because the spirits of the plants work together — just as the roots of different trees interweave beneath the forest floor, sharing nutrients and information through the web of life.
Traditional Significance
Siete Raices has a long history as a social and ceremonial medicine in the Amazon — shared between friends, offered as a tonic for those recovering from illness or physical strain, and worked with in spiritual contexts by those seeking to strengthen their energy field and deepen their connection to the plant world. One of the most traditional preparations is to macerate the bark blend in cane spirit or rum for several weeks — an Amazonian tradition still widely practised today. Our powdered blend can be used in exactly this way, or prepared as a decoction for those who prefer an alcohol-free preparation.
How to Prepare
As a tea or decoction: Add one to two teaspoons of the powdered bark blend to 500ml of water. Simmer gently over a low heat for 20–30 minutes. Strain and drink. A gentle simmer preserves the plant's properties far better than a rolling boil. Drink once or twice daily, ideally away from food.
As a traditional maceration: Add the powdered bark blend to a bottle of good quality rum or cane spirit. Seal and leave to macerate for a minimum of two weeks — four weeks is better. Shake occasionally. Take a small shot or add to water daily. This is the most traditional Amazonian preparation and produces a warming, deeply potent tonic.
Storage: Keep in an airtight container away from direct sunlight, heat and moisture. A cool dark cupboard is ideal.
